Superwoman of April 2018: Threes Boestami

by Marina Utami

Even though it’s a bit late, but I am super excited to feature this lady! We only met one time when she came to visit Jakarta. She used to live in my place before she moved to Bangladesh for her job. And a year later she came back just to say hi to everyone and I got to know her a little. I gotta say, she is one of the superwomen I have ever encountered! Even though she has a partner, she still likes to explore solo and her country-to-go is always someplace that I couldn’t imagine for anyone to even visit. But she made it and I think she is worth to be mention. Hope her story can inspire you to dream big and achieve a good career that able to keep you travelling. Introducing Threes Boestami, the lady who loves being Indonesian too much as she decided to wear “Damn, I love Indonesia” t-shirt wherever she goes!

What inspired you to travel solo for the first time?

I want to see the world and what is not being covered by the news.

Tell us about the first time you travelled alone. Where did you go and what did you do?

Was went to Nigeria, a city of Lagos and working there as QA/QC Manager. The first day after landed and heading to the site, I saw a dead body on road just covered by newspaper, the government do nothing for 3 days and wait until if there is any family or relatives will claim that body. I was shocked and almost puke. Nigeria is still considered not secure country especially for women whose travelling alone, due to the situation of politics and economy reason, the people are very aggressive and rough. When I have reached the airport and during immigration check, an immigration officer is more interested in my watch instead of asking my purpose travelling to their country lol. However, I take that as unusual discovery when you travel to Nigeria.

Bangladesh 2016

So what are the love/hate things you experienced travelling alone?

I love seeing things that undiscovered by media that I had to explore, discovered things and I really enjoyed the process of finding moments. I am not saying “hate” I rather say “barrier” which is more fun coz that is the challenge when you travel abroad. However…..it is really irritating me when it comes to find…….…….toilet!!!! I ran to bushes just to do my “business” hahahaha

Some people hate when they dealing with a beggar (in Bangladesh) but if you live there and get to know the country, you will understand why those people “need’ to do that…..

Who’s your travel inspiration?

Hhhhmmm….since I am not follower hahahaha……maybe more about “what is my travel inspiration”……is just simple dream “want travel around the world not only to see things but also feel things (situation of the country, how people’s life and culture) then you will realize how to respect, accept and moreover gratitude of what you have until now…and stay humble…..so maybe to answer that question, I just follow my own inspiration…..

What are your favourite websites and travel apps do you often use?

I like using travel advisor, Couch Surfing (amazing how they try to accommodate stranger people with the positive mind!, salute for that) Agoda, Booking and Hostels Application, not but not least Nusatrip!

What is your favorite country so far? Any recommendation for female solo traveler?

I really like Nepal, Namaste!!! The people are so humble, the nature with strong heritage I feel that easy to get around, safe for women who travel alone, and despite they are selling new iPhone, they are not crazy about other Hollywood thing lol

Canada

What are some important things you bring when travelling solo? (Beside money and passport?)

Minyak Telon and Coin!!! (that is for kerokan purpose lol). That is so TRUE. Since most of the time, I had travel is for business purpose and has to stay longer due to working there.

Everyone has their quiry thing when they travel. I love doing temple hunting and visiting museums. So what’s yours?

I don’t like amusement things lol, love to see nature, culture, heritage, how people do things in their lives or more adventure trip like get lost or take a train trip from and to other cities, try local bus and food street.

Share your tips for any first time solo traveller?

Be yourself! But always take precautions especially when you travel out of nowhere (like west Africa) and always prepare the worst case scenario.

What’s your favorite travel quote that’s best describe you?

Life Well Travel 100%

Threes is an independent and unpredictable woman who has a passion for eating the local dish and explore undiscovered places. She has been travelled most of the time for working in overseas since her background is Auditor. She loves to explore exotic countries, last year she went to 3 countries and this year she is going to travel 4 countries.  Hopefully with her story, she can encourage women to do what they want and be confident in themselves, moreover respect and accept differences and stays as who they are. Damn, she loves being Indonesian and she is so proud of it.
